Pecos<\/strong>\u00a0 is the largest city in and the\u00a0county seat\u00a0of\u00a0Reeves County,\u00a0Texas,\u00a0United States. It is situated in the river valley on the west bank of the\u00a0Pecos River\u00a0at the eastern edge of the\u00a0Chihuahuan Desert\u00a0and the\u00a0Trans-Pecos\u00a0region of west Texas and near the southern border of\u00a0New Mexico. The population is 8,780. \u00a0The city on January 24, 2012, had just appeared on Forbes 400 as the 2nd fastest-growing small town in the country.The city is a regional commercial center for ranching, oil and gas production and agriculture. The city is most recognized for its association with the local cultivation of\u00a0cantaloupes.\u00a0Pecos claims to be the site of the world’s first\u00a0rodeo\u00a0on July 4, 1883.<\/p>\n
