Hawaii is the 50th and most recent\u00a0state\u00a0to have joined the\u00a0United States of America, having received statehood on August 21, 1959.Hawaii is the only U.S. state located in\u00a0Oceania\u00a0and the only one composed entirely of islands. It is the northernmost island group in\u00a0Polynesia, occupying most of an\u00a0archipelago\u00a0in the central\u00a0Pacific Ocean.<\/p>\n

The state encompasses nearly the entire volcanic\u00a0Hawaiian archipelago, which comprises hundreds of islands\u00a0spread over\u00a02.400 km. At the southeastern end of the archipelago, the eight main islands are \u00a0Ni\u02bb<\/span>ihau,\u00a0Kaua\u02bb<\/span>i,\u00a0O\u02bb<\/span>ahu,\u00a0Moloka\u02bb<\/span>i,\u00a0L\u0101na\u02bb<\/span>i,\u00a0Kaho\u02bb<\/span>olawe,\u00a0Maui, and the\u00a0Island of Hawai\u02bb<\/span>i. The last is the largest island in the group; it is often called the „Big Island“ or „Hawai\u02bb<\/span>i Island“ to avoid confusion with the state or archipelago. The state of Hawaii derives its name from the name of its largest island,\u00a0Hawai\u02bb<\/span>i. A common Hawaiian explanation of the name of Hawai\u02bb<\/span>i is that was named for\u00a0Hawai\u02bb<\/span>iloa, a legendary figure from Hawaiian myth. He is said to have discovered the islands when they were first settled.<\/p>\n

Hawaii’s diverse natural scenery, warm tropical climate, abundance of public beaches, oceanic surroundings, and active volcanoes make it a popular destination for tourists, surfers, biologists, and volcanologists. Because of its central location in the Pacific and 19th-century labor migration, Hawaii’s culture is strongly influenced by North American and Asian cultures, in addition to its\u00a0indigenous Hawaiian\u00a0culture. Hawaii has over a million permanent residents, along with many visitors and U.S. military personnel. Its capital is\u00a0Honolulu\u00a0on the island of O\u02bb<\/span>ahu.<\/p>\n

Hawaii is the\u00a08th-smallest\u00a0and the\u00a011th-least populous, but the\u00a013th-most densely populated\u00a0of the fifty U.S. states. It is the only state with an\u00a0Asian\u00a0plurality. The state’s coastline is about 1,210\u00a0km long, the\u00a0fourth longest in the U.S.\u00a0after the coastlines of Alaska, Florida, and California.<\/p>\n

The history of Hawaii’s economy can be traced through a succession of dominant industries;\u00a0sandalwood,\u00a0whaling, sugarcane,\u00a0pineapple, the military, tourism and education. Since statehood in 1959, tourism has been the largest industry\u00a0contributing 24.3% of the gross state product.<\/p>\n

The cost of living in Hawaii, specifically Honolulu, is high compared to that of most major U.S. cities.\u00a0Hawaii’s very high\u00a0cost of living\u00a0is the result of several interwoven factors.\u00a0. Like other regions with desirable weather throughout the year, such as areas of\u00a0California,\u00a0Arizona\u00a0and\u00a0Florida, Hawaii’s residents can be considered to be subject to a „Sunshine tax“.This situation is further exacerbated by the natural factors of geography and world distribution that lead to higher prices for goods due to increased shipping costs, a problem which many\u00a0island states and territories\u00a0suffer from as well.<\/p>\n

There are many attractions such as Waikiki beach ( in the suburbs of Honolulu), Volcanoes National Park Hawaii, Pearl Harbor and USS Arizona Memorial, Vaipi’o Valley (Island of Hawaii), Haleakala National Park (Maui), Maui Ocean Center, Mauna Kea Mountain ect.<\/p>\n
