Walden

The Town of Walden is a Statutory Town that is the county seat of, and the only incorporated municipality in, Jackson County, Colorado.  Its population is around 600.

It is situated in the center of a large open valley called North Park. People from Walden and the surrounding area refer to themselves as „North Parkers“.

Walden is a small town in a beautiful Park, or valley, totally surrounded by spectacular and fun-filled mountain ranges. North Park abounds in outdoor activities, including fishing, hunting, mountain biking, hiking, boating, and snowmobiling.

Walden’s new Main Street welcome center can point you to all the outdoor activities surrounding you year-round, including ghost-town exploration, wildlife refuges, rodeos and the OHV trails in North Sand Hills’ sand dunes. The area is home to several ghost mining towns including Tellar City, Pearl and Coalmont, and is also known as the Moose Capital of Colorado. Nearby State Forest State Park is an excellent place to spot the lumbering beauties. And the North Park-Cache la Poudre Scenic Byway is an excellent way to tour the area’s beautiful scenery.

During the summer there is a lot of festivals. The North Park Never Summer Rodeo held each June is rich in Western and cowboy heritage, July is highlighted by North Park Day festivities and August is focused on the Sky’s the Limit Hot Air Balloon Festival.
