Los Angeles is the second largest city in the USA and the most populous city in the US state of California. Since it is located in Southern California, it is blessed with a Mediterranean climate.<\/p>\n
In fact, the full name of the city of Los Angeles is "El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula" which translated from Spanish means "The City of Our Lady, Queen of Angels on the Porciuncula River (now the Los Angeles River)". That is why the city was nicknamed the city of angels.<\/p>\n
The city was officially founded in 1781 by the Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. Los Angeles became part of Mexico in 1821 after the Mexican War of Independence, and became part of the US again in 1848 when the US bought California from Mexico.<\/p>\n
After the US took over California, railroad construction began and oil was discovered there for the first time in 1892 and again in 1923.<\/p>\n
