Virginia Beach<\/strong>\u00a0is an\u00a0independent city\u00a0located in the\u00a0U.S. state\u00a0of\u00a0Virginia.\u00a0In 2015, the population was estimated to be 452,745.\u00a0Although mostly suburban in character, it is the most populous city in Virginia and the 41st most populous city in the nation.<\/p>\n

Located on the\u00a0Atlantic Ocean\u00a0at the mouth of the\u00a0Chesapeake Bay, Virginia Beach is included in the\u00a0Hampton Roadsmetropolitan area. This area, known as „America’s First Region“, also includes the independent cities of\u00a0Chesapeake,\u00a0Hampton,\u00a0Newport News,\u00a0Norfolk,\u00a0Portsmouth, and\u00a0Suffolk, as well as other smaller cities, counties, and towns of Hampton Roads.<\/p>\n

Virginia Beach is a resort city with miles of beaches and hundreds of hotels, motels, and restaurants along its\u00a0oceanfront. Every year the city hosts the\u00a0East Coast Surfing Championships\u00a0as well as the North American Sand Soccer Championship, a\u00a0beach soccer\u00a0tournament. It is also home to several state parks, several long-protected beach areas, three military bases, a number of large corporations, two universities, International headquarters and site of the television broadcast studios for\u00a0Pat Robertson’s\u00a0Christian Broadcasting Network\u00a0(CBN),\u00a0Edgar Cayce’s\u00a0Association for Research and Enlightenment, and numerous historic sites. Near the point where the Chesapeake Bay and the Atlantic Ocean meet,\u00a0Cape Henry\u00a0was the site of the\u00a0first landing\u00a0of the English colonists, who eventually settled in\u00a0Jamestown, on April 26, 1607.<\/p>\n

The city is listed in the\u00a0Guinness Book of Records<\/em>\u00a0as having the longest pleasure beach in the world. It is located at the southern end of the\u00a0Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel, the longest\u00a0bridge-tunnel\u00a0complex in the world.<\/p>\n
