California is the\u00a0most populous state\u00a0in the\u00a0United States\u00a0and the\u00a0third most extensive\u00a0by area. Located on the western coast of the U.S., California is bordered by\u00a0Oregon\u00a0to the north,\u00a0Nevada, to the east and northeast,\u00a0Arizona\u00a0to the southeast and it shares an\u00a0international border\u00a0with the\u00a0Mexican state\u00a0of\u00a0Baja California\u00a0to the south. The state capital is\u00a0Sacramento.\u00a0Los Angeles\u00a0is California’s\u00a0most populous city.\u00a0What is now California was first settled by\u00a0various Native American tribes\u00a0before being explored by a number of European expeditions during the 16th and 17th centuries.\u00a0The\u00a0Spanish Empire\u00a0then claimed it as part of\u00a0Alta California\u00a0in their\u00a0New Spain\u00a0colony. The area became a part of\u00a0Mexico\u00a0in 1821 following its successful\u00a0war for independence, but was ceded to the United States in 1848 after the\u00a0Mexican\u2013American War.\u00a0The\u00a0California Gold Rush\u00a0starting in 1848 led to dramatic social and demographic changes, with large-scale emigration from the east and abroad with an accompanying economic boom.<\/span><\/p>\n

If it were a country, California would be the\u00a06th largest economy in the world. It is also regarded as a global trendsetter in both popular culture and politics, and is the origin of the\u00a0film industry, the\u00a0hippie\u00a0counterculture, the\u00a0Internet,\u00a0and the\u00a0personal computer, among others. Fifty-eight percent of the\u00a0state’s economy\u00a0is centered on\u00a0finance,\u00a0government,\u00a0real estate services,\u00a0technology, and professional, scientific and technical\u00a0business services.<\/span><\/p>\n

Although most of the state has a\u00a0Mediterranean climate, due to the state’s large size, the climate ranges from\u00a0subarctic\u00a0to\u00a0subtropical. The cool\u00a0California Current\u00a0offshore often creates summer\u00a0fog\u00a0near the coast. Farther inland, there are colder winters and hotter summers. The maritime moderation results in the shoreline summertime temperatures of\u00a0Los Angeles\u00a0and\u00a0San Francisco\u00a0being the coolest of all major metropolitan areas of the United States and uniquely cool compared to areas on the same latitude in the interior and on the east coast of the North American continent.<\/span><\/p>\n

California is one of the richest and most diverse parts of the world, and includes some of the most endangered ecological communities. California is part of the\u00a0Nearctic ecozone and spans a number of terrestrial\u00a0ecoregions.<\/span><\/p>\n

Among many of the attractions tourist can visit in California there are Yosemite National Park, Disneyland (Anaheim), Death Valley National Park, Lake Tahoe, Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco, Redwood National Park, SeaWorld San Diego, General Sherman sequoia ect.<\/span><\/p>\n
