Six months later, it became one of the original\u00a013 states\u00a0that\u00a0founded\u00a0the\u00a0United States of America, and in June 1788 it was the ninth state to ratify the\u00a0Constitution, bringing that document into effect.<\/p>\n<p>With some of the\u00a0largest ski mountains on the East Coast, New Hampshire&#8217;s major recreational attractions include\u00a0skiing, snowmobiling, and other winter sports, hiking and mountaineering, observing the fall foliage, summer cottages along many lakes and the seacoast, motor sports at the\u00a0New Hampshire Motor Speedway, and\u00a0Motorcycle Week.<\/p>\n<p>New Hampshire experiences a\u00a0humid continental climate, with warm, humid summers, cold, wet winters, and uniform precipitation all year. The climate of the southeastern portion is moderated by the\u00a0Atlantic Ocean\u00a0and averages relatively milder and wetter weather, while the northern and interior portions experience cooler temperatures and lower humidity.<\/p>\n<p>New Hampshire has the\u00a0shortest ocean coastline\u00a0of any state in the United States, approximately 18 miles (29\u00a0km) long.\u00a0Hampton Beach\u00a0is a popular local summer destination.
