The town is 45 miles (72\u00a0km) north (by road) from Barnstable<\/a>, Hyannis, Massachusetts<\/a> and 62 miles (100\u00a0km) by road to the Sagamore Bridge, which spans the Cape Cod Canal<\/a> and connects Cape Cod to the mainland. Provincetown is 45 miles (72\u00a0km) east by southeast from Boston by air or sea, and 115 miles (185\u00a0km) by road.<\/p>\n

The water surrounding Provincetown has the effect of moderating temperatures, such that the entire town is included in USDA plant hardiness zone<\/a> 7a, which indicates an average annual extreme minimum temperature (1976\u20132005) of between 0 and 5\u00a0\u00b0F (\u221217.8 and \u221215.0\u00a0\u00b0C).[20]<\/a><\/sup> The water also has the effect of delaying the onset of the seasons, by keeping spring temperatures cooler and fall temperatures warmer than the rest of the state.<\/p>\n
