Old Orchard Beach is a town in York County, Maine, United States. Located on the inner side of Saco Bay on the Atlantic Ocean, the town is a popular summer beach destination.<\/p>\n

The town takes it\u2019s name from an old apple orchard which had been planted by it\u2019s first settler, Thomas Rogers, who had come from Salem, Massachusetts in 1653. Rogers had named his orchard „The Garden By The Sea“.<\/p>\n

Old Orchard Beach, \u00a0has been welcoming people to its seven-mile stretch of sandy beach for more than 170 years. This beach has lifeguards.<\/p>\n

Old Orchard\u2019s Pier\u2014which extends nearly 500 feet out over the Atlantic Ocean\u2014is the center of the recreational offerings here. On the pier, you can shop, eat, play games of skill, enjoy the nightlife, go dancing, watch fireworks, listen to concerts, fish, or go on a whale watching or birdwatching tour.<\/p>\n

You \u00a0can also enjoy many Old Orchard Beach attractions like the Beachfront Palace Playland Park, which is the only beachfront amusement park in New England. You can play 18 holes of golf near the beach at the Dunegrass Golf Club.<\/p>\n

The downtown contains many tourist-oriented businesses, including clam shacks and T-shirt shops. A wooden pier on the beach contains many other tourist businesses, including a variety of souvenir shops. The seven mile (11 km) long beach stretching away from the downtown is lined with many beach residential properties, condominiums, motels and bed and breakfasts.<\/p>\n

One block from the shore in Old Orchard Beach you\u2019ll find a beautifully landscaped public park.\u00a0\u00a0 The park is a great place for a picnic or just to unwind. The park offers free summer concerts, patriotic flag raisings, a petanque court, special events, and stunning displays of \u201cartistry in bloom\u201d!<\/p>\n

Local art organization hosts outdoor art shows in the summer months.<\/p>\n
