The Commonwealth of Virginia is a state in the South of the United States of America. The state was one of the original thirteen British colonies and is the twelfth most populated state in the USA. The capital of the Commonwealth is Richmond and Virginia Beach is the most populous city. Virginia's culture was popularized and spread across America and the South by figures such as George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and Robert E. Lee. The climate of Virginia becomes increasingly warmer and more humid farther south and east. The Atlantic ocean has a strong effect on eastern and southeastern coastal areas of the state.
