Ja sam oduševljena mestom. Očekivala sam mnogo gore s obzirom da sam znala da je mesto malo, turističko (mada nisam verovala da dolazi puno turista), a i bila sam jedina iz Srbije tamo. Mesto ima malo stanovnika, smešteno je na zalivu ali leti ga turisti preplave. I to oni sa dubljim džepom i jahtama. Ljudi su neverovatni, ljubazni, srdačni, uglavnom uvek srećni i uvek spremni da pomognu. Drugi posao može da se nadje ali treba da se potrudite. Meni je trebalo 3 nedelje da nađem drugi posao jer su poslodavci uvek govorili da sezona još nije počela i trenutno nemaju potrebu za novim radnicima (kraj maja,početak juna). Ali kad sam konačno pronašla drugi posao, nisam mogla da verujem kakvu sam ponudu dobila.

Vlasnica je poreklom iz Ukrajine i trudi se da zapošljava studente iz tog podneblja. Tako su svi ostali studenti tamo bili iz Moldavije i Rumunije. Jedina loša stvar je bila što su svi pričali rumunski jezik, ili eventualno ruski tako da sam ja bila dosta izolovana. Ali moje pravo iskustvo u US počinje sa ponudom za drugi posao. Prilikom potrage za drugim poslom, dobila sam ponudu da radim kao knjigovođa za 3 hotela i restorana (zbog radnog iskustva koje sam imala u Srbiji). Tad nisam mogla da verujem kakvu sam priliku dobila. Jedini problem je bio što je trebalo da radim u knjigovodstvu prepodnevnu smenu, koju sam već radila u hotelu, tako da sam uglavnom napustila moj prvobitan posao i ako su oni i dalje ostali moji formalni sponzori i odlazila sam da im pomognem samo ponekad kad su imali gužvu. U knjigovodstvu je iskustvo bilo neverovatno, davali su mi razne zadatke i poslove, neke čak i dosta odgovorne, bila sam u prilici da upoznam i saradjujem sa mnogim ljudima, hotelima, bankama. Satnica je bila $10, prekovremeni $15. Pošto sam i dalje imala slobodnog vremena posle podne, pronašla sam još jedan posao u prodavnici obuće (Log Cabin shoestore). Satnica takođe $10. Takođe lepo iskustvo, upoznaju se mnogi ljudi sa različitih krajeva Amerike. Kao knjigovođa sam radila u Tugboat inn hotelu i restoranu koji je deo Lafayette lanca hotela od čega su tri hotela imali u mom mestu. Naš hotel je radio knjigovodstvene poslove za sva tri hotela. U proseku sam imala oko 40h nedeljno na prvom poslu i oko 36h na drugom poslu. Kada su mi u septembru u prodavnici obuće rekli da ukidaju popodnevnu smenu i da im neću više biti potrebna, na prvom poslu su se trudili da mi daju više posla i plaćaju prekovremeni rad. Tako sam tamo ponekad radila i u kuhinji i na pranju veša. Tad sam imala preko 70h nedeljno.

I am thrilled with the place. I expected much worse since I knew that the place was small, touristy (although I did not believe that a lot of tourists came), and I was the only one from Serbia there. The place has a small population, it is located on the bay, but tourists flood it in summer.

And those with deeper pockets and yachts. People are amazing, kind, cordial, mostly always happy and always ready to help. Another job can be found but you need to make an effort. It took me 3 weeks to find another job because the employers always said that the season had not started yet and currently they did not need new workers (end of May, beginning of June). But when I finally found another job, I couldn’t believe what kind of offer I got.

At that time, I couldn’t believe what an opportunity I got. The only problem was that I had to work in bookkeeping the morning shift, which I was already doing at the hotel, so I mostly left my original job and if they still remained my formal sponsors and I went to help them only sometimes when they had crowd. The experience in bookkeeping was amazing, they gave me various tasks and jobs, some even quite responsible, I had the opportunity to meet and cooperate with many people, hotels, banks. The hourly rate was $ 10, the overtime $ 15. Since I still had free time in the afternoon, I found another job in a shoe store (Log Cabin shoe store). The hourly rate is also $ 10. As an accountant I worked at the Tugboat Inn Hotel and Restaurant which is part of the Lafayette hotel chain of which three hotels had in my place. Our hotel did the bookkeeping work for all three hotels. On average, I had about 40 hours a week at my first job and about 36 hours at my second job. When they told me in the shoe store in September that they were canceling the afternoon shift and that I would no longer need them, at the first job they tried to give me more work and pay for overtime work. So I sometimes worked there in the kitchen and doing laundry. Then I had over 70h a week.
