Lifeguards SWT Summer 2025

While on duty, all lifeguards must do the following:

  • Keeping the pool safe at all times
  • Maintenance of the filtration system and pool chemicals
  • Maintenance of cleanliness around the pool and toilets
  • Entry control
  • Providing services to pool users

TRAINING

Training duration: 2-3 days

Upon arrival, all applicants must undergo Lifeguard, First Aid and CPR training by a professional instructor with American Red Cross certificate.

Training price: $200-$250
Certificate renewal fee: $100 for those whose certificate has expired

Training Requirements:

  • Swimming 300m freestyle and breaststroke
  • Carrying a brick weighing 5 kg from a depth of 3 m, swimming with it about 20 m away from the edge of the pool, as well as exiting the pool without assistance
  • Taking a written test and an aptitude test, for which they will prepare during the training

SALARY:

The regular hourly rate varies by location and ranges from: (first 40 hours during the work week): $15.5 – $18 per hour
Overtime hourly rate (possible at most locations): $23.25 – $27 per hour

Working hours during the week range from 44-56 hours per week so overtime is common.

 

ACCOMMODATION:

The company manages swimming pools in Washington DC, Northern and Southern Virginia, Maryland, Massachusetts State, Montgomery County... Facilities are located within a 15-minute drive. Accommodation will be assigned by the company after completion of lifeguard training. All international students must stay in accommodation provided by the company.

Accommodation description:

– 4-6 employees in two- or three-room apartments
- The apartments are partially furnished with all kitchen appliances necessary for preparing food (food is not provided by the company)
- All candidates must have advanced knowledge of the English language in order to be employed.

Utilities: local telephone, wireless Internet, water and electricity (utilities are included in the rent). Excess utility costs are deducted from the deposit. Employees must provide their own bedding and cosmetics.

UNIFORM:

All employees must wear a uniform during working hours.

The price of the uniform depends on the location: $75 (can be paid in advance or deducted from the first salary) or is FREE.

TRANSPORTATION:

Most of the pools can be reached on foot. In some cases, bicycles are used or it is necessary to use public transport.

Price of a rented bicycle on a monthly basis: $50 or more
Public transport price: $17.5 weekly bus ticket, $60 for unlimited metro use.
If a company vehicle is provided, candidates must have a valid international driver's license and must pay for their own gas.
