You have 1-1.5 years of work in Australia ahead of you and one of the items you must be familiar with is the Australian tax system.

Australia has one of the highest taxes that primarily depends on whether you are a resident or not of the place where you work.

The tax year in Australia lasts from 01.07. of the current year until 30.06. next year. All employees in Australia, including temporary employees (who hold a subclass 407 visa) are required to pay tax, but they also have the option of a tax refund at the end of the tax year. The request for a tax refund must be submitted by October 31. Upon opening a bank account and employment, employed persons receive a "tax file number" which is delivered to the employer. The tax is paid by the employer directly before your salary is paid. The tax you are obliged to pay depends on your salary. For non-residents, if your monthly salary is up to $80000 AUD, the tax will be 32.5 cents per dollar. Salary in Australia is usually paid weekly or bi-monthly.

If your salary in Australia is between $37000-87000 AUD the salary tax on $37000 will be $3572 plus 32.5 cents on every dollar over this amount.

It is important to note that if you buy some equipment and materials that you need for work, you only need to save the receipt and you will be entitled to a tax refund at the end of the tax year.

You are entitled to a tax refund after your employment in Australia ends. Any tax refund depends on the amount of your salary. For an average salary in Australia of AUD $78832 per year, the monthly tax refund is around AUD $2600 according to taxback.com.

10 reasons to live in Australia

  1. Standard and quality of life
Australia can offer a high quality of life and standard of living thanks to the combination of its relatively stable economy, climate and lifestyle.
  2. Economy
While other countries fell into global recession, Australia achieved strong economic growth, low debt and a triple-A credit rating.
Unlike most European countries, Australia has so far largely avoided sinking into a deep recession. Australia is the thirteenth largest economy in the world, has a high GDP per capita, a low poverty rate, a relatively low unemployment rate and is rich in natural resources. This means that there is a greater diversity of employment and business opportunities than in many European countries, especially in the services, finance and IT industries.
The government is trying to attract the attention of skilled professionals and workers from all over the world and this has led to a dramatic increase in the quality of services and products coming from Australia.
  3. Health system
Australians enjoy the third highest life expectancy in the world. Australia's health care system is world-renowned for its effectiveness and efficiency.
In an international comparative study of health systems in six countries (Australia, Canada, Germany, New Zealand, Great Britain and the United States of America) it was found that Australia ranks at the highest level.
  4. Air conditioning
Australia's climate varies due to its geographical size, but generally a temperate and warm climate prevails throughout the year, especially in coastal cities.
This relatively benign climate has contributed to the fact that people in this country spend a lot of time outside.
  5. Multiculturalism
Australia has an extremely multicultural population. Australia's recent history is one of mass emigration, from all parts of the world. Today 1 in 4 Australians was born overseas and that ratio continues to grow.
This means you will never stand out as a foreigner in Australia. If you are smart, positive, have a good level of English and the right attitude, you will find many job opportunities, probably more than in your own country. No wonder Australia is often called the "promised land".
Australians are hospitable and open to foreigners who settle here. In Australia, you will find tolerance, the cosmopolitan atmosphere of major cities and cultural influence from around the world.
  6. Happiest nation in the world
Australia was voted the happiest nation in the world among developed countries three years in a row (2011, 2012 and 2013) by the Paris-based Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
In the OECD research, more than 30 countries were ranked, with criteria such as the level of income of citizens, health, safety and standard of living.
  7. English speaking area
We cannot dispute the fact that many people and immigrants from all over the world choose Australia as a country to live precisely because of the fact that it is an English-speaking area. Considering that English is the most frequently used language in the whole world, it is easier for people to integrate in a country where this language is officially spoken.
  8. A friendly country
The Anholt Brand Index, which ranks countries based on culture, tourism and people, regularly ranks Australia at the top of the list of friendliest countries in the world.
The figure of almost 6 million tourists a year shows us that Australians are doing the right thing to bring people back to this country in greater numbers.
  9. Low crime rate
Australia is one of the safest countries in the world and has one of the lowest crime rates.
  10. A way of life
Many foreigners consider the lifestyle as the main reason for going to Australia. Due to the sunny and warm climate, as well as a large number of beautiful beaches and other green areas, Australia offers a relaxed way of life. There are endless ways to spend your time in Australia, including swimming, barbecuing or picnicking on the beach, hiking, diving, fishing or simply enjoying the sun. With its long, sandy and clean beaches that are among the best in the world, Australia is also a surfer's paradise. (source http://budikengur.com/)

Hospitality in Australia

The Australian National Tourism and Transport Forum has officially announced the return of culinary chefs to Australia's shortage list. This country urgently needs trained chefs to help tourists have a positive experience of Australia. In the spheres of tourism and transport, there is a shortage of many occupations, but the most urgent demand is for cooks. During 2011 and 2012, 2,160 chefs and chefs received work visas but, as stated, "many tourism and hospitality businesses still have problems finding adequate staff." Tourism is a very competitive industry and, in addition to good infrastructure and an interesting cultural offer, Australia also needs experienced people who will be able to meet the demands of guests at all levels. For the Australia Training program, we currently need people who will go for a certain period of time (12-18 months) to improve in their field and to be able to find the best possible job in the profession when they return to their home country. The salary that program participants can expect on an annual basis is between $42,000 - $50,000 AUD.

  • tooth repair is around :$150-350
  • hairdresser standard haircut: $80, manicurist $60
  • the two main supermarkets are Woolworths and Coles, however the European supermarket Aldi also has good prices
  • the average consumption basket of a family is $150-200 for food alone per week
  • the main course in restaurants generally ranges around $35
  • for an apartment, it is always necessary to set aside a deposit in the amount of one month's rent
  • bills are generally paid by linking them to a bank account. In that case, they are automatically paid on a certain date of the month, and the service usually informs you before removing the money from the account
  • delivery of things when you move costs about $50-90 per tour
  • the price of a ride in city buses or metro always depends on the mileage. Transportation works by buying a MZKI card that is filled with money at certain places and is checked on the machine with "touch on" when you enter and "touch off" when you get off the bus, and in return a certain amount of money is deducted from your card. On working days, the maximum amount that can be spent from the card is $12. It is also possible to get a monthly card for a specific zone, and in that case you can drive as much as you want.
  • on average, living in Australia is 10% more expensive than in the US.

THE BANKING SYSTEM OF AUSTRALIA

One of the most important things when planning to move even to another city, let alone another country, is a bank account. In modern society, doing business without a bank account is impossible, on the basis of it you receive a salary, get pension and health insurance, pay all transactions and bills, take out loans and much more.

The thing you have to think about before you go to Australia is choosing the right bank and opening an account in it.

Some banks in Australia allow you to transfer funds even before your departure to Australia. The first bank in Australia whose services are used by the majority of citizens is "WESTPAC". This bank has a wide range of services and benefits that it provides both to residents and to persons temporarily working and staying in Australia. Westpac is a bank that has offices all over the world and has a support service that is active 24/07. In addition to regular banking services, it provides plenty of information and convenience to people coming to Australia for the first time. The most convenient thing about this bank is that it allows you to open a current account even up to 12 months before your arrival in Australia, as well as the possibility of transferring funds.

Westpac Bank's website is https://www.westpac.com.au/ if you need additional information.

MOBILE OPERATORS IN AUSTRALIA

Australia is one of the first countries to introduce mobile phones into active use and is generally among the first countries in the world to implement new techniques and technologies. When buying a new phone, always pay attention to every detail, price, size, brand, memory, additional benefits and so on. The same is the case with the phone number, what is the signal strength by territory, what is the service itself like. Mobile phone providers are probably the most knowledgeable people who can provide you with this type of information and give you the right advice. Such is the case in Australia. In Australia, there is an extremely small percentage of the population that buys phones that are not tied to a mobile operator.

Australia's leading mobile providers are:

TELSTRA. Telstra is Australia's leading mobile provider for mobile phones with the option to pay in installments with a variety of benefits. They also have a wide network of stores where you can buy adequate equipment for your mobile phones. In addition to mobile telephony services, they also provide home Internet and landline telephony services, depending on which package you choose. The largest percentage of the population uses the services of this provider because it provides the best conditions for paying mobile phones, you can be a prepaid and postpaid user, and most of the territory of Australia is covered by the signal.

OPTUS. Optus is the second largest mobile provider but is certainly far smaller than Telstra. The scope of Optus' business is reduced to about 30 private projects and 8 business projects that cover a certain number of the population. The biggest difference between Telstra and Optus is the size of the territory that the signal covers, and in this case Telstra is definitely the better provider.

VODAFONE. Vodafone is an even smaller mobile provider than Optus, reduced to just 38 private projects in Australia. The biggest disadvantage of this provider is that the signal covers only large metropolises and larger cities in the districts.

VIRGIN MOBILE. Virgin mobile is definitely the smallest provider in Australia that is effectively part of Optus because it uses its network.

With all of the listed providers, you can conclude a contract on the package that suits you best. The most important thing is to emphasize when choosing a package what you really need and emphasize that you want to know the final price including taxes so that there is no confusion.

We recommend that, when you first move to Australia, you take a package that is paid in advance and allows you a certain number of minutes, messages, roaming for that money, because the overdraft interest on other packages in Australia is quite high.

It is important to note that most accessories you may have from previous mobile phones will not work with the mobile phones you pick up in Australia as they have different technology to us. For this very reason, there is no point in carrying additional mobile equipment that you probably won't be able to use.

New South Whales / Sydney

NEW SOUTH WALES

is the oldest inhabited country in Australia, which originally arose as a colony on the shores of Port Jackson on the territory of present-day Sydney. Today, Sydney is the capital and largest city of this country and represents a city with ethnic communities from more than 100 countries. The population of New South Wales is 7.29 million inhabitants, which is a third of the total population of Australia.

The first people to inhabit this country were the Aborigines, the original natives of Australia. In 1770, Captain James Cook, under the command of the British Royal Navy, sailed along the east coast of Australia and set sail in the bay now known as South Sydney. Cook declared this territory a colony of Great Britain and named it New South Wales. The colony became a country in 1901 after Australia was officially declared a country.

Today, South Wales is one of Australia's largest immigration centers. This is Australia's most populous state and economic center, and as such offers numerous employment opportunities for overseas citizens.

The state is known as the "Premier State" and the residents are known as "cockroaches".

SYDNEY:

Sydney is the capital of the state of New South Wales and with 4.6 million inhabitants is the largest city in Australia. It is located on the central coast of the state between the Blue Mountains in the west and the Tasman Sea in the east. The city is located on numerous bays and rivers. Sydney has about 480,000 tourists and visitors on a daily basis. Above all, the city offers good entertainment and attracts practically every major musical, dramatic and cultural event. Because of its place in the country's economy and education, Sydney is one of the first choices for immigrants when it comes to improving their education or employment. Sydney is one of the most expensive cities in the world to live in, but it also offers many opportunities and excellent earnings.

The most important landmarks of Sydney are the Opera House, Harbor Bridge, Aquarium, Queen Victoria Building, etc.

Regarding jobs, the largest percentage of employers offers jobs related to professional, scientific and technical services in the fields of education, trade, tourism and hospitality. The industry that employs the largest number of workers in Sydney is education, followed immediately by tourism.

Victoria / Melbourne

VICTORIA

is located in the southeastern part of Australia and is the smallest of all the other states, but it is highly urbanized and with its 5 million inhabitants is one of the most densely populated regions of Australia. It is the second most populous state in Australia, after New South Wales. The capital of the state is Melbourne. It is often called the cultural capital of Australia because it is the center of Australian cinema, art, dance and music.

Before the arrival of Europeans, Victoria was inhabited by aboriginal people known collectively as the Koori. Ever since Great Britain claimed almost all of eastern Australia as her colony, Victoria was included in the wider colony of New South Wales.

It achieved its self-government in 1855. After the discovery of gold in the present-day town of Ballart, the Victorian Gold Rush officially began, which caused an increase in the population and wealth of the state itself. Thanks to this, Melbourne became the financial center of Australia and New Zealand as well as the capital between 1901 and 1927, while Canberra was still under construction.

MELBOURNE

is the capital of the state of Victoria and is the second largest and most populous city in Australia, right after Sydney. This city is the leading financial center in Australia and the Asia-Pacific region, and for the third year in a row it was named the most liveable city in the world. Melbourne ranks exceptionally high in the areas of education, entertainment, health, research and development, tourism and sport. It is considered the cultural capital of Australia. The biggest sights of the city are: Federation square, Queen Victoria Market, aquarium, zoo, Eureca Skydeck 88, etc.

Melbourne is one of Australia's largest industrial cities. About 300,000 people are employed in the manufacturing sector which includes the production of cars, chemicals, food, etc. Among the other economic branches that are also the core of Australia's economy, we single out finance, the IT industry and tourism. The sector where there is always a shortage of workers is healthcare, so all medical experts from abroad are welcome in this city.

Interesting facts

  • Before Melbourne became known by this name, it was called Batmania, Bearbras, Bearport, Bearhip and Bearbury.
  • Melbourne is officially the biggest fox capital of the world with between 6 and 23 foxes per square kilometer in the metropolitan area.

Queensland / Brisbane

QUEENSLAND

is the second largest state in Australia. When compared to other countries, it can be cited as an example that it is 5 times larger than Japan in terms of area. The population is 4.5 million people and the capital is Brisbane. More than half of the people live outside the metropolitan area of Brisbane, which is a different situation compared to other states where the majority of the population lives in large urban centers. This state has 5 of Australia's 11 natural garden areas. These include the National Parks Scenic Rim, Frase Island, Riversleigh Fossil Fields, Wet Tropics and one of the 7 Wonders of the World - the Great Barrier Reef. As the country with the lowest tax in Australia, with new technologies and services and enough room for development, Queensland is certainly a desirable destination for many new businesses every year.

Queensland was inhabited by Aborigines as early as 65,000 years ago. The first Europeans to visit these areas were the Dutch explorers Willem Jenz and Jan Carstens. The first conqueror of Queensland was James Cook, who came to this territory back in 1970. After that, it became a part of New South Wales and a colony of Great Britain at the same time. Queensland officially separated from New South Wales in 1851.

From an economic point of view, Queensland represents one of the biggest centers of tourism in Australia precisely because of the large amount of natural heritage it possesses.

BRISBANE

is the capital and most populous city of the state of Queensland. It has 2.2 million inhabitants. It is named after the Brisbane River on which it is located, which was named after the Scottish Governor of New South Wales, Sir Thomas Brisbane.

Brisbane is rapidly developing as a diverse and energetic global city with a $114 billion economy. It is part of Australia's fastest growing metropolitan region, South East Queensland, with a population expected to double to almost 4 million by 2056.

The biggest sights of the city are Queensland Cultural Centre, South Bank Parklands, Brisbane Powerhouse, Alma Park...

The key occupations that are becoming highly sought after in Brisbane are related to the construction industry, education, finance, healthcare, mining, transport etc. More than half of the population of this district works in these industries. In addition, still in this part, all these occupations are deficient and represent an opportunity for immigration.

Business services make up more than a quarter of Brisbane's total economy. That sector is the largest in terms of the number of employees in this city.

Interesting facts
