Scarborough is a town in Cumberland County on the southern coast of the U.S. state of Maine. The town is a coastal resort area. It is located about 7 miles (11 km) south of Portland, Scarborough is part of the Portland–South Portland–Biddeford, Maine metropolitan statistical area.

At the 3,000-acre Scarborough Marsh Nature Center, you can explore Maine’s largest tidal marsh, which serves as a resting, breeding and feeding ground for wildlife. You can take guided or self-guided walks, rent a canoe at the nature center, or go on a guided canoe tour.
If you travel along the peninsula of Prouts Neck at the southern end of Scarborough, you can view homes designed by architect John Calvin Stevens and see the rocky cliffs that inspired painter Winslow Homer. At the Prouts Neck Bird Sanctuary, you can walk on a path that passes Homer’s studio and see the nesting area of the endangered piping plover.
