Los Angeles is the second largest city in the USA and the most populous city in the US state of California. Since it is located in Southern California, it is blessed with a Mediterranean climate.

In fact, the full name of the city of Los Angeles is "El Pueblo de Nuestra Senora la Reina de los Angeles de Porciuncula" which translated from Spanish means "The City of Our Lady, Queen of Angels on the Porciuncula River (now the Los Angeles River)". That is why the city was nicknamed the city of angels.

The city was officially founded in 1781 by the Spanish governor Felipe de Neve. Los Angeles became part of Mexico in 1821 after the Mexican War of Independence, and became part of the US again in 1848 when the US bought California from Mexico.

After the US took over California, railroad construction began and oil was discovered there for the first time in 1892 and again in 1923.

Due to the large increase in population, the problem of water supply arose, and the construction of the Los Angeles Aqueduct was started, which was completed in 1913.

With the aim of easier irrigation, Hollywood became part of Los Angeles in 1910, and already then 10 film companies were launched in that city.

During World War II, Los Angeles was a major center for the production of weapons, ships and aircraft.

Today, Los Angeles is the main center of the American entertainment industry. Los Angeles is also the only non-European city that hosted the Summer Olympics twice (1932 and 1984).

Thomas Edison is actually responsible for the boom in the film industry in Los Angeles. He owned a large number of film patents, and he lived in New Jersey, so directors traveled to the other side of the continent so that they could do their work without fear of being jailed.

Los Angeles is the city where the Oscars are traditionally awarded every year.
