Lutsen

Lutsen is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Lutsen Township, Cook County, Minnesota, United States. Its population is around 200. Lutsen is located within the Superior National Forest, on the North Shore of Lake Superior. It is 18 miles southwest of the city of Grand Marais; and 65 miles northeast of the city of Two Harbors.

The Cascade River flows through Cascade River State Park on Minnesota’s North Shore. It offers recreational opportunities for hikers to follow trails leading to the waterfalls. The trails run beside the river which show views of the waterfalls. Also, sitting on 1 million acres of land, the Superior National Forest is a national forest that is known for its boreal forest ecosystem, clean lakes, and colorful cultural history. The forest supports hunting, camping, swimming, and hiking.

The stunning landscape attracts writers, artists and musicians. They share their skills in workshops and classes.

Summer activities that are free of charge include hiking tours, shuttle service, kayaking, campfires, pitch and putt golf, lobby crafts, kids camps, fly fishing instruction, stand up paddle boarding and many others.
