Mentor is named after the Greek figure Mentor, in keeping with the Connecticut Western Reserve settlers’ tradition, as well as that of most other Americans at the time, of celebrating aspects of Greek classicism (nearby Solon, Macedonia, Euclid, and Akron also were named using that principle).
The Mentor Parks, Recreation & Public Facilities Department offers more than 1,200 ways to play each year. From art work shops, fitness classes, senior trips, and day camps to golf instruction, kayaking tours, nature walks and hockey leagues, the department offers something for everyone.
The department includes programming and services offered at the Mentor Lagoons Nature Preserve & Marina, Black Brook Golf Course, Wildwood Cultural Center, Mentor Senior Center, Mentor Ice Arena and general recreation sites at each of our parks and facilities.
In Mentor, we know that parks and recreation programming enhances our community and creates a great place in which to live. We provide you with opportunities to meet your neighbors, improve your health, learn something new and develop hobbies for a lifetime.
