The Forks

The Forks is known as a snowmobiling and whitewater rafting destination. You can traverse more than 100 miles of interconnected snowmobiling trails that crisscross the region. The Forks is located where the Dead River and Kennebec River meet—making it the starting point for riding these two rivers. You can take a 12-mile Kennebec River trip that begins on Indian Pond and roars through the Upper Kennebec Gorge, with rapids up to class IV. You can also traverse the Dead River, which provides the longest stretch of continuous whitewater in the East. You’ll find numerous guiding companies in The Forks that can take you on guided ATV tours, mountain biking treks, rock climbing or snowshoeing trips, in addition to whitewater rafting trips. If you’d like a more relaxed adventure, you can take an easy walk that is less than a mile long to 90-foot Moxie Falls.
